Pete's parents moved to Pensacola, Florida over the summer... so when we discussed what we were going to do with the kids over Fall Break, the answer was pretty obvious- to Grandma and Grandpa's house we GO!!!
Of course... right out of the shoots, not even out of the van, Evelyn started running a fever. She didn't even make it inside before she took her first Fall Break field trip to Urgent Care. It was a bummer, but AT LEAST Grandpa got to come!!! She left with meds and diagnosis of a virus... and then was ready for some vaca time. To add to the fun, our niece, Laila was there for the weekend as well- SO FUN!!!
First stop: THE BEACH!!!
I hung with Evelyn at the house just to give her some chill time to feel better while the rest of the crew hit up the Shrimp Festival and the beach- they LOVED it!
The next day, Evelyn was feeling a bit better so we all got to go to the Naval Air Museum nearby. It was HUGE with lots of different planes and helicopters used through the years in the navy.
The kids had a blast climbing in and out of all the helicopters and airplanes.... and got a little history lesson to go right along with it;).
...Maggie loved touching ALL the things while we were there;). Such a neat place... somewhere Pete had gone to as a child and he so loved bringing our girls back to enjoy it with him!
{Sisters and a view}
{Cheesing it up with Maggie Lou}
The next day, we loaded up for a short road trip and explored Fort Pickens. It was a fort, hundred + years old, full of bunkers and cannons... the kids were amazed and enjoyed running around the grounds.
{The Lee Boys}
On the way out of the fort, we stopped or some wave jumping and a picnic lunch. It was amazing how entertaining those waves could be- girls were content for a good while... so sweet!
As with all family gatherings... a puzzle was involved. Grandma specifically saved and packed up this puzzle from Indiana to enjoy with Harper;). It was a cat-filled one and we ALL worked hard to finish it during our trip.
What a GREAT long-weekend spent with this crew. The silliness of cousin time, fantastic meals, and just good ol'fashioned hang out time with family was SO NICE. Pretty darn happy for Tom and Darla: beautiful new home, quiet and serene part of the city, and a hop, skip, and a jump from the beach- they are NAILING semi-retirement for sure;).
Can't wait to be back soon....
Tom and Darla... thank you for taking such great care of us;)- love you guys!!
